Who will help me plant?

One sunny morning, the Little Red Hen found some tiny grains of wheat. "Who will help me plant them?" she asked. "Not I," yawned the cat. "Not I," quacked the duck. "Not I," snored the piglet. "Then I will plant them myself," said the Little Red Hen.

Up grows the wheat

The rain came pitter-patter and the sun shone warm, until the wheat grew tall and golden. "Who will help me cut the wheat?" asked the hen. "Not I," said the cat, the duck and the piglet. "Then I will cut it myself," said the Little Red Hen.

Off to the mill

The Little Red Hen carried the heavy sack all the way to the mill. Round and round went the big wheel, and out puffed soft white flour. "Who will help me carry it home?" she asked. "Not I," they all said. So the little hen carried it home herself.

Mix, mix, bake!

In her warm little kitchen the hen mixed the flour into soft dough. She popped it in the oven, and soon the whole farm smelled of fresh bread. "Who will help me bake?" she had asked. "Not I," they said — so she baked it all by herself.

Tomorrow we all help

"Who will help me eat the bread?" said the hen. "I will! I will! I will!" cried the cat, the duck and the piglet. So they promised: "Tomorrow we will help you plant, and cut, and bake." And the Little Red Hen shared warm bread with all her friends.
